Saxophone giant David S. Ware has died. He was 62. If he’s a new name to you, Amine Koudier shot a beautiful short film about Ware’s concert return following a kidney transplant in 2009.
On a personal note, it was his colossal, yet tender playing that got me into writing about more sound-seeking music, and I’ve never looked back since. We’ll have more to come soon. Rest in peace. — Lars

Sad. Saw his quartet play once (quite by accident, they were opening for a rock band), and it was crazy, and beautiful, and revelatory.
